An AI agent that accidentally hacked an Australian gym while trying to book a training session. Now the Australian government is officially saying what we have been saying all year. AI is not just a productivity tool. It is a systemic risk that requires a systemic response. What this means for Australian businesses right now. The Royal Commission will take time. Recommendations will come months later. Legislation will follow even later. But the regulatory direction is already clear. Organisations using AI without governance, without oversight, without documentation of what their AI agents are doing — will soon find themselves in the same position as companies without privacy policies in 2017. First warnings. Then requirements. Then penalties. The difference is that right now you still have time to prepare.

- Document decisions made with AI involvement — especially those affecting customers or staff
- Assign ownership of AI governance in your organisation — it does not need to be a separate role but someone needs to own this
