This year's theme: "No one's just a number." Behind every record in a database is a real person. And while we talk about protecting people's data โ Australia is quietly moving toward one of the most important cybersecurity changes in years. A Security Labelling Scheme for smart devices. Mandatory security labelling for connected devices sold in Australia. Printers. IP cameras. Routers. Smart TVs. Anything that connects to a network and runs firmware. Here is why this matters. Most Australian businesses think about cybersecurity as protecting computers and servers. But every modern office has dozens of connected devices that nobody monitors. Nobody updates. Nobody checks. A printer sitting in the corner running 2019 firmware. An IP camera at the entrance with the default password admin/admin. A router that was last updated when it was installed. Every one of these devices is an entry point into your network. And unlike computers they are almost never covered by any security monitoring tools. The Security Labelling Scheme means vendors will be required to meet minimum security standards. That is a good first step. But until it takes effect โ your infrastructure already contains these devices. And they are already connected.

- List every connected device on your network โ not just computers but printers, cameras, routers and smart TVs
- Check passwords on all these devices โ if the manufacturer default is still in place that is an open door
- Make sure firmware is up to date โ especially on devices that have been running for years without any issues
At Aussie Cyber Guard we help Australian businesses see their full attack surface โ including the devices that usually stay outside the security team's attention. Contact us here or on LinkedIn. #CyberSecurity #Australia #IoTSecurity #SmartDevices #ScamAwarenessWeek #CyberRisk #AussieCyberGuard
